Let’s dive in and learn all about Korean Hippie Perm for Men.
What is Hippie perm?
Hippie perm is a trendy Korean perm that gets it’s inspiration from the retro style of the hippie era with extreme curls. Hippie perm is a umbrella term for these 3 types of perms: Shadow Perm, Baby Perm and Spinswallow Perm
Let’s take a look at each of the styles to see how they look and are different:
Shadow Perm:
Shadow perm is the lightest curl style out of the hippie perms. The wave of the curl is light so that the hair falls naturally towards the sides like the following:
Baby Perm:
Baby perm is basically shadow perm but with more curl. The perm starts from the root of the hair so that it gives much more volume to your hair.
Spinswallow perm:
Spinswallow perm has one of the most unique curls. It adds both C and S curl to hair making the hair more ‘dirty’ looking as in more of the hair sticks out like the following:
What kind of looks does Hippie perm Give?
Again it depends on which of these three hairstyles that you go for. For Shadow perm it gives a Dandy yet cool vibe and if you want to read more about it take a look here.
For Baby perm, and the name suggests it gives a very cute and youthful vibe. If you want to reverse your age and bring back the old days, baby perm might be for you.
Lastly, Spinswallow perm gives off a more edgy and chill vibe. Especially since your hair sticks out much more, you give off an ‘I am cool’ vibe.
What facial shape fits best with Hippie perm?
Shadow perm – take a look at my blog for shadow perm to see all the face shapes that go well with it.
Baby perm and Spinswallow perm – Actually both of these perms and shadow perm can fit all different face shapes, depending on how you style them. But for the most basic, standard style it goes as follows:
Egg shape face – Again fits every perm
Face with defined jawline/edges – fits extremely well especially if you want to give off more warm vibe with baby perm or if you want to stay edgy with
Long face where your forehead is long compare to your nose length/nose to chin length – Both baby perm and Spinswallow perm will cover up your forehead, making your face look much smaller
What facial shape should avoid hippie perm?
Round face – Since the front of your forehead is blocked it makes your face look more round and horizontally bigger. However, if you style the hair to show more of your forehead by doing a see-through hair cut or just give karma to your perm, Hippie perm can work fine.
Long face where your nose to chin or your nose length is too long – since you are covering up your forehead and giving more volume to your hair via hippie perm, your face can look more elongated/ the focus of the eyes may go more towards the long part of your face. Recommend doing a see-through cut with hippie perm.
How much does it cost?
I have called around 10 places in California and it costs around $100 for the perm. More expensive if you go higher end ($150). Make sure the cost includes the cut for the hair since some places charge them separately.
How to Properly maintain Hippie perm after getting it
It depends on your hair. The maintenance score can be Low or Medium.
If your hair is thick and naturally has strength, you can blow dry it until it is slightly wet and let it naturally dry afterwards and you will still have the volume.
But if you don’t have that thick hair, you need to dry it more carefully. Dry your front hair first. Then side hair second, and then back/neck part of your hair last. Again dry it so that it is slightly still wet and if you do not have the natural volume, use perm cream to give volume to the area that needs it.
