What is Edge perm?

Edge perm is a spin off from Karma perm (AKA Parting perm) where you expose your forehead a very small amount so that only the small ‘edge’ of the forehead shows.

Compared to Karma perm (Parting perm) the ratio of the forehead that shows is very small. However the ‘parting’ location for your hair can follow after Karma perm.

For instance, the standard Karma perm parts the front hair at 5:5 ratio which means the parting of the hair is at the center of your forehead. You can also do 6:4 or 7:3 ratio for Edge perm and people actually prefer these 2 ratios over 5:5 just because 5:5 ratio often times show too much forehead. But since you are doing Edge perm that should not matter.

Let’s take a look at some pictures to understand exactly how Edge perm looks like vs Karma perm.

First Karma perm:

You can see that it reveals a lot of the forehead making it too much for some people. However, with exposed forehead, it has a benefit of showing more of your face line and the wave that comes on the side makes you look more neat and calm.

Second Edge perm:

You can clearly see that only small part of your forehead is exposed, making it a safer option for some people who may be uncomfortable showing too much of their forehead.

What kind of looks does it give?

Edge perm in general gives off a dandy yet cool vibe. With Karma perm you give off a neat, well groomed feel, but with it, you can give off more character to your hairstyle.

Let’s take a look at some hairstyle to see what I mean:

You can see that edge perm gives off more character to the person. The person in the picture looks nice and dandy but also sleek from that little parting of the hair in his forehead.

What facial shape fits best with Edge perm?

Egg Face – Egg face goes well with almost any hair styles at least for Korean hairstyles. The person in the picture right above has an egg face with the perm.

Round Face – It gives volume to the top part of the hair and reveals a little of the forehead making your face look more slim and elongated then the round face. The benefit of this is that you give off more calm, gentle vibe then a cute vibe that you get with round face.

Long face where your forehead is big – It gives volume to your hair and covers majority of your forehead except for the little edge, making your face look smaller.

Edged Faces – Edge perm with smooth curl can give your face a warm, welcoming look. Recommend this if you want to be seen as collected and gentle.

What facial shape should avoid it?

Do not recommend a long face due to long nose to chin length. It will focus other’s eyes on the nose to chin instead of dispersing around your face.

How much does it cost?

I have called around 10 places in California and it costs around $100 for the perm. More expensive if you go higher end ($150). Make sure the cost includes the cut for the hair

How to Properly maintain Edge perm after getting it

Maintenance Score – Low.

Perm cream and regular combing, it does take some minimal tasks to take care of the hair. So if you are a guy who has at least a little time to maintain your hair, edge perm is one of the safest and trendiest hair that you can get
