There are a lot of variation of See-Through cuts and perms but let’s focus on perm for this post.
What is See-Through Perm?
The name gives away what kind of perm it is. See-through iron perm or a short version See-Through perm is very light, natural perm where your hair comes down to your forehead, but the front hairs are trimmed down so that your forehead is more ‘see through’.
The word see-through is actually used a lot for different hairstyles and you can basically see that it adds variation to already existing perms that have front hairs in it. For instance, shadow see-through perm is a shadow perm with more trimmed front hair.
Let’s take a look at some photos to see how it looks like:
Here is another photo directly from the front
The flow of the hair is very natural and the front of the hair is trimmed so that you have more visibility of your forehead and have less hairs that may be poking at your eyes.
Another thing to note is that the perm is given not using the typical perm with rubber band and perm rods but rather with an iron to perm from the root of your hair. The benefit for this is the volume that it creates compared to other perm techniques that are used. Moreover if you have very thin hair so that your hair usually flattens out instead of puffs up, Iron perm can actually help your hair thicken by separating the hair from attaching to your scalp.
When your hair sticks to your scalp, the hair becomes weaker and thins out because of scalp heat, sweat and sebum, causing the hair to fall out and become thinner. So then, by doing iron perm your hair can be separated from the scalp and become stronger.
What kind of looks does See-Through perm Give?
See-through perm gives off a dandy and neat vibe. But compared to the dandy cut which has been a little outdated in Korea, your face is more revealing and looks more open and nice instead of closed.
What facial shape fits best with See-Through perm?
The perm goes well with almost all face shapes except maybe edged face. If you have a strong jawline and prefer to show off the masculinity and the edginess of the face more, see-through perm may not work for you. Other than that it goes well with almost all face shapes because it naturally helps your face look more like egg shape by giving your hair a volume, and also covering your forehead so that if you have a long face your face looks much shorter.
If you want to show off your dandy and neat side of you but don’t want to commit to the typical cut. See-through perm is the right perm for you.
How much does it cost?
There is also a see-through cut. The cut itself costs around $30 – $50, depending on the place you go. The perm costs around $80 – $100+. The thing to note is that you need to request an Iron perm instead of a digital or regular perm. If you do not get an Iron perm, your perm will not look like the photo above, moreover, you should show the perm style so that your hairstylist can make the curl of the hair not too strong and natural.
Another thing to note is that see-through perm is a perm + cut. So make sure the hair shop that you go to takes into account both the perm + cut cost.
How to maintain the perm?
Maintenance score – low.
Dry the hair by first gathering the hair towards the middle of the hair and start drying them. Afterwards, start drying from the front of the hair. If you need more volume, use perm cream to give it more shape. That is all!
